The market regulator fined Trip.com Group Limited (referred to as Trip.com) a total of 5.179 billion yuan on July 25 for abusing its market dominance to engage in monopolistic practices.

The company was also ordered to conduct a comprehensive rectification.

Trip.com responded immediately, stating it sincerely accepts and firmly complies with the decision. It will strictly follow regulatory requirements, systematically implement all corrective measures, and ensure every action is executed properly. The company plans to publicly release specific rectification steps and actively welcome oversight from all sectors of society.

An investigation revealed that since 2020, Trip.com exploited its dominant position in China's online hotel reservation platform services market. It used a traffic allocation mechanism as its core tool, along with platform rules and technical methods, to carry out two types of monopolistic behavior.

The market regulator stated it will supervise Trip.com's comprehensive rectification, ensure public disclosure of corrective actions, and accept social oversight. The goal is to protect the legal rights of hotel operators and consumers, maintain a market order that prioritizes quality and fair competition, and promote industry innovation and healthy development.

Trip.com stated it will use this penalty as an opportunity for deep reflection and self-reform. The company resolutely abandons "involution-style" inefficient competition and is committed to a path of high-quality development. It will fulfill its primary responsibility for maintaining fair market order, pay greater attention to balancing the interests of partners, consumers, and all societal stakeholders, and work to build a symbiotic and healthy cultural tourism ecosystem. Looking ahead, the company will consistently adhere to compliant operations, establish a long-term governance mechanism, fulfill corporate social responsibilities, and contribute to advancing China's goal of becoming a tourism powerhouse.
