ByteDance Denies Collaboration with VeriSilicon on AI Chip Design

On August 20, recent industry reports suggested that ByteDance was collaborating with VeriSilicon Holdings to design an advanced AI computing chip. In response, ByteDance representatives clarified that the company has no AI chip-related cooperation with VeriSilicon Holdings.

This is not the first time ByteDance has been linked to rumors about partnering with other manufacturers to design AI chips or processors. In the first half of last year, foreign media reported that ByteDance was working with Broadcom to develop AI processors to ensure sufficient supply of high-end chips. The reported AI processor would use a 5nm process and be manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing. While design work was said to be progressing smoothly, the "tape-out" phase that marks the end of design and beginning of manufacturing had not yet started. ByteDance subsequently denied the rumors about "collaborating with Broadcom on AI chip development."

In September last year, regarding media reports that ByteDance planned to cooperate with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing on AI chips, ByteDance responded that the reports were inaccurate. The company stated that while it does have some exploration in the chip field, it remains in the early stages, primarily focused on cost optimization for recommendation and advertising businesses. All projects fully comply with relevant trade control regulations.
