Data released by the Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Statistics on August 21 shows that from January to July this year, the province's economy maintained a stable trajectory marked by continuous improvement and innovation. Following a first-half GDP that surpassed the 7 trillion yuan milestone with growth hitting a three-year high for the same period, the region's industrial output value above designated size rose 5.7% year-on-year, with advanced manufacturing and high-tech industries posting robust expansion.

Building the Highway for the New Economy

The dominant theme for the first seven months has been the rapid commercialization of new productive forces. Output from large-scale industrial enterprises grew 5.7%, while advanced manufacturing and high-tech manufacturing value-added output expanded by 6.7% and 11.1%, respectively. Notably, advanced equipment manufacturing surged 7.8%, serving as a crucial pillar within this sector. Yet more significant than the growth rates is the qualitative shift occurring beneath the quantitative gains. During this period, 3D printer production climbed 56.5%, industrial robot output grew 36.6%, and integrated circuit manufacturing increased 34.3%. Together, these figures sketch a clear industrial chain: from chip design and production in integrated circuits, to intelligent equipment like industrial robots, and culminating in cutting-edge processes such as 3D printing, Guangdong is constructing a complete productivity system that spans the "brain," "skeleton," and "limbs." Green products also showed impressive momentum, with new energy vehicle output rising 49.0%, lithium-ion batteries up 34.3%, and wind turbine generator sets increasing 18.9%.

On the investment front, Guangdong's direction toward innovation is increasingly resolute and structurally resilient. Fixed asset investment in the province narrowed its decline by 0.1 percentage points compared to the first half. The standout change came from equipment and tool purchases, which jumped 24.3%—a growth rate that accelerated by 1.9 percentage points—signaling that the large-scale equipment renewal policy is amplifying its effects. Investment in high-tech manufacturing grew a solid 9.1%, with electronics, computer, and office equipment manufacturing soaring 46.5%, and internet and related services investment skyrocketing 382.5%. From a surge in computing power projects breaking ground in the first half to sustained growth in internet investment through July, Guangdong is clearly paving a "highway" for its new economy.

Services Sector Bolsters Manufacturing Upgrades with Soft Support

While manufacturing acts as Guangdong's economic anchor, the services sector is increasingly becoming a steadfast booster. In the first half, revenue from large-scale service enterprises rose 7.1% year-on-year. By category, information transmission, software, and information technology services saw revenue increase 6.3%, with internet-related services and software/IT services growing 7.9% and 7.5%, respectively. Transportation, warehousing, and postal services expanded 8.8%, accelerating by 1.0 percentage point from the January-to-May period, while leasing and business services grew 12.1%. Modern services are providing the "soft support" essential for manufacturing upgrades.

Meanwhile, passenger and cargo flows mirror the economy's vitality: freight volume and cargo turnover increased 0.6% and 9.5%, respectively, while passenger volume and turnover grew 5.8% and 5.0%. High-speed rail passenger numbers and turnover rose particularly strongly, up 9.4% and 7.1%. With people and goods moving freely, the lifeblood of Guangdong's economy continues to surge.
