Amazon.com Inc. has announced that individuals enrolled in Medicare Part D can now access select GLP-1 weight-loss medications through its Amazon Pharmacy service. Medicare Part D beneficiaries are those enrolled in the prescription drug benefit plan under the U.S. federal Medicare program, typically U.S. citizens or legal residents aged 65 and older, or those eligible for Medicare due to specific disabilities. Enrollment in Part D requires prior coverage under Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) or Part B (outpatient insurance).

Amazon stated that Novo Nordisk's Wegovy, Eli Lilly's Zepbound KwikPen, and oral and injectable forms of Foundayo tablets will be available at a monthly cost of $50, with free home delivery. The company added that same-day delivery is offered at over 3,100 locations nationwide, and no Prime membership is required. These medications are provided through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program, a federal short-term initiative valid until December 31, 2027, which allows Medicare Part D members meeting specific clinical criteria to obtain prescription drugs for weight management.

Amazon noted that once a clinician submits an electronic GLP-1 prescription, Amazon Pharmacy will manage the entire process, including verifying eligibility, handling prior authorizations, and initiating enrollment. Customers need to link their Medicare information and Bridge insurance plan to their account. "Once a patient's clinician sends in the prescription, we handle the rest, delivering the medication to their doorstep," said Tanya Patel, Vice President and General Manager of Amazon Pharmacy.

In April of this year, Amazon announced a program offering GLP-1 therapy through its One Medical primary care division. That program provides GLP-1 tablets at $25 per month with insurance or a $149 monthly self-pay option. The company said the service is available at all Amazon One Medical locations nationwide.
