Samsung Electronics has announced that its first triple-foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, will go on sale in the United States on January 30, with a price tag of $2,899.
This price point significantly exceeds that of any other smartphone currently available in the US market. Samsung's own Galaxy Z Fold 7, which features a single fold instead of two, retails for $2,000, matching the price of Apple's top-tier iPhone 17 Pro Max with 2TB of storage.
Samsung will sell the TriFold exclusively through its official website and Samsung Experience Stores, meaning mobile carrier partners including Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T will not offer the device directly.
When unfolded, the TriFold transforms into a large 10-inch tablet, with its thinnest point measuring just 3.9mm, and it boasts a folding durability of 200,000 cycles. According to Samsung, the US version will come with 512GB of storage and will be available only in black.
The model was initially launched in South Korea on December 2, priced at 3.59 million won (approximately $2,450 at the time).
The phone's thickness and weight are considered its primary drawbacks.
Some early reviews have praised the device's expansive inner screen, suggesting it offers a more immersive experience for movies and video entertainment compared to conventional foldables like the Fold 7 and Google's Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
However, the TriFold's substantial weight of 309 grams (0.68 pounds) and its thickness when folded are notable weaknesses. Given its ultra-premium price, the device's software features are also frequently cited as not being fully mature.
The Galaxy Z TriFold is destined to be a niche luxury item, serving more as a showcase of Samsung's industrial design prowess in the foldable segment rather than a product expected to generate significant sales volume or substantial revenue.
Apple is scheduled to release its first foldable iPhone later this year. Apple has been consistently working on eliminating the visible crease on the inner screen of its foldable devices.
