Reports citing informed sources indicate that SpaceX (SPCX.US) is exploring a significant expansion of its data center footprint within the state of Texas, which could include at least one large-scale facility to bolster its artificial intelligence computing infrastructure.
This move would notably extend the geographic reach of the company's data center operations. Its primary current hub is the Colossus campus in Memphis, Tennessee.
The first phase, Colossus 1, commenced operations in July 2024 following a roughly four-month construction period, while Colossus 2 began construction in March 2025.
Sources familiar with the matter stated that SpaceX has evaluated multiple potential sites across Texas and has discussed various expansion strategies, including building several new data centers and repurposing existing warehouse space for AI computing facilities.
In addition to the Texas expansion plans, SpaceX has reportedly already initiated construction on a third data center in Memphis.
The company acquired an approximately 810,000-square-foot warehouse facility in Mississippi in 2025.
Furthermore, SpaceX has deployed some of its data center personnel to Florida to support related operations.
Separately, AI server manufacturer Super Micro Computer (SMCI.US) disclosed on Tuesday that its backlog of orders has reached a record high, with new orders exceeding $60 billion in total value.
Super Micro's CEO, Charles Liang, stated in June of this year that the company is collaborating with SpaceX on the construction of another 1-gigawatt (GW) AI data center, though the specific location was not revealed.
As of now, SpaceX has not publicly responded to requests for comment on these reports.
