Total SA has submitted a single authorization application for its 1.5-gigawatt Centre Manche Energies offshore wind project. Located off the coast of Normandy, the company describes this as France's largest renewable energy project, and the submission marks a key milestone in its development.

The project company, which is fully owned by Total SA, submitted this authorization application eight months after the French government awarded the project.

According to the company, the wind farm is situated more than 40 kilometers from the Normandy coast and is expected to generate approximately 6 terawatt-hours of electricity annually, sufficient to power over one million French households.

Thierry Muller, Project Director for Centre Manche Energies, stated: "We are pleased to have submitted the authorization application and reached this significant milestone for Centre Manche Energies. We would like to thank our technical partners, regional stakeholders, and the authorities for their hard work. We intend to continue developing this competitive and value-creating project for Normandy, which will provide renewable electricity to nearly one million French households."

Total SA indicated that the authorization application documents include technical and environmental studies, preliminary wind farm design, and the planned installation scheme.

The company stated that the environmental impact assessment incorporates findings from studies, discussions with government departments, and consultation feedback from regional stakeholders.

According to the company, the project approval process is now entering a government review phase. Concurrently, consultations with local officials, environmental groups, mariners, and the public will continue.

Total SA noted that this $5.2 billion (€4.5 billion) project is expected to employ up to 2,500 people during its three-year construction phase. The company also intends to prioritize European suppliers, particularly for wind turbines and cables.

The company reported that, as of the end of April 2026, Total SA's total global power generation capacity includes nearly 36 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity.
