Pan American Silver shares tumbled 9.01% in after-hours trading on Wednesday after the company reported second-quarter financial results that fell short of Wall Street expectations.

The miner posted adjusted earnings of $0.73 per share, missing the consensus estimate of $1.04 by nearly 30%. Revenue came in at $1.124 billion, below the $1.158 billion analysts had forecast. The earnings miss marks a sharp contrast to the prior quarter, when the company significantly beat expectations, and dampened investor sentiment despite a year-over-year increase in earnings.

Adding to the negative tone, the company noted that gold production was below its quarterly guidance range and now expects full-year gold output at the low end of its annual forecast, with all-in sustaining costs for gold at the high end. The combination of the earnings miss and cautious guidance triggered a sharp sell-off in the stock.
