American Eagle Outfitters' stock tumbled 11.44% in pre-market trading following the release of its first-quarter fiscal 2026 results, which revealed a mixed performance across its brands and prompted analyst price target cuts.

The apparel retailer reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.14, beating consensus estimates, and revenue of $1.20 billion that slightly exceeded expectations. However, investors reacted negatively to the divergence in brand performance: while the Aerie brand delivered record revenue with comparable sales soaring 25%, the core American Eagle brand saw comparable sales decline 2%. Management cited underperformance in the women's bottoms category and reported a 27% year-over-year increase in inventory.

The company maintained its full-year outlook, expecting comparable sales to grow in the mid-single digits, but this failed to reassure investors amid broader apparel sector concerns and cautious consumer spending. Analysts at JP Morgan and Barclays subsequently cut their price targets on the stock, contributing to the pre-market decline.
