The Morningstar (China) 2026 Investment Summit was officially held at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai on April 24. The summit focused on enhancing investor services and promoting high-quality industry development, bringing together numerous institutions, industry experts, and mainstream media. Liu Jianping, President of the Shanghai Asset Management Association and General Manager of China Europe Fund, was invited to attend and deliver the opening speech.

Liu Jianping pointed out that the domestic public fund industry is undergoing profound changes, with its development logic shifting from a previous emphasis on scale to a focus on returns. Supported by a series of institutional improvements, including fee reforms, performance benchmark standardization, and optimization of medium to long-term assessments, the industry continues to prioritize investor interests and steadily advance its high-quality transformation.

As a core hub for the national asset management industry, Shanghai's fund sector has achieved impressive results. By the end of last year, the total assets under management of Shanghai's 75 fund companies reached 18.39 trillion yuan, an increase of 18% year-on-year. Among these, public fund assets amounted to 14.27 trillion yuan, with equity fund assets totaling 3.55 trillion yuan, a 29% year-on-year increase. Index fund assets reached 1.64 trillion yuan, up 43% year-on-year, with multiple core business scales leading the nation.

In terms of innovation, Shanghai's fund industry has made significant strides across several areas. Breakthroughs have been achieved in four key fields: new floating fee products, personal pension-supporting funds, ESG investment layouts, and digital transformation in financial technology. Institutions in the region launched eight of the first batch of new floating fee products, with over 100 products included in the personal pension fund catalog. ESG fund management scale reached 485.5 billion yuan, accounting for nearly half of the national total. Additionally, Shanghai's public fund financial technology capabilities are prominent, with industry award-winning projects representing 54% of the entire sector, and extensive experience in AI-driven asset management transformation.

It was reported that the Shanghai Asset Management Association is the first local fund industry organization in China, with 318 member units covering public funds, private funds, asset management, and sales institutions, fostering a collaborative industry ecosystem. For a long time, the association has leveraged its functions to connect regulators and the market, produce industry research, and build communication platforms, contributing to the construction of Shanghai as an international asset management center and earning multiple national industry honors.

Liu Jianping stated that in the next phase, Shanghai's fund industry will continue to play a leading role and further optimize investor service capabilities. He also expressed hope for deepened cooperation with international institutions like Morningstar, integrating global asset management experience with local market practices to jointly promote the stable, healthy, and high-quality development of the domestic fund industry.
