The Safety Committee Office of the Ministry of Transport recently held a meeting with China Railway Construction Corporation Limited and several of its subsidiaries in response to multiple incidents occurring in highway and waterway construction projects since the beginning of this year. The meeting was conducted in accordance with the Ministry’s measures for safety production warnings and supervisory oversight, with the aim of improving safety conditions in the sector.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that China Railway Construction must fully implement the decisions and arrangements made by the Central Committee of the Communist Party and the State Council, balancing development with safety while prioritizing people’s lives and well-being. The company is urged to adopt a correct view of political performance and properly manage the relationship between safety, quality, construction timelines, and economic benefits. Strengthening management, maintaining high standards, and enforcing strict requirements are essential to enhance the quality and safety management of highway and waterway construction projects.

The meeting also pointed out that China Railway Construction should deeply recognize the current safety production situation, conduct thorough analysis of underlying issues behind the accidents, and learn from these incidents. Effective measures must be taken to prevent risks arising from inadequate awareness, insufficient on-site control, and poor management of materials and products. Resolute actions are required to curb the frequent occurrence of accidents.

Furthermore, China Railway Construction was instructed to strictly fulfill its primary responsibility as an enterprise, take proactive steps to strengthen internal safety management, and enhance oversight of subcontractors and labor cooperation teams. Efforts should be made to rectify violations and reckless construction practices, and prevent loss of control at construction sites. The company is also required to intensify efforts in identifying and addressing potential risks, particularly in key areas such as bridges, tunnels, foundation pits, slopes, and temporary structural works, in order to prevent serious accidents involving multiple casualties.
