The ChinaAMC Hang Seng Biotech ETF (03069) climbed more than 4% during Tuesday trading, reflecting a surge in investor enthusiasm for the biotechnology sector. As of the latest update, the fund was up 4.01% to HKD 15.58, with turnover reaching HKD 69.28 million.

This rally comes amid a wave of positive clinical data presented at the 2026 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC), held from September 12-15. Chinese innovative drug developers made a strong showing at the conference, setting a new record with 19 oral presentations and 45 mini-oral presentations selected for the event.

Among the standout presentations, Hansoh Pharmaceutical unveiled interim results from its Phase III ARTEMIS-008 study of the B7-H3-targeting ADC, Rivantorvotamab, which met its primary endpoint of overall survival. Additionally, Akeso Inc's HARMONi-2 trial achieved its interim overall survival analysis target, adding to the growing list of positive readouts.

According to Sinolink Securities, innovative drug companies are approaching a turning point toward profitability, with dense clinical data catalysts expected throughout the year. The broker also highlighted the smooth progress of overseas clinical development for already-licensed outbound pipelines, reinforcing a bullish outlook on the innovative drug investment theme.

Public data shows that the ChinaAMC Hang Seng Biotech ETF tracks the Hang Seng Biotechnology Index, whose constituents include leading Chinese biotech firms such as Akeso Inc, Innovent Biologics, and BeiGene, all recognized for their global competitiveness. The ETF was officially included in the Stock Connect program on July 22, 2024, making it one of the accessible Hong Kong-listed ETFs for mainland investors, providing a convenient vehicle for allocating to the innovative drug and biotech sectors.
