Industry insiders revealed on Wednesday that unionized employees at SK hynix are moving to establish a general labor union, with the goal of enrolling more than half of the company's workforce to secure majority representation.

A preparatory committee is expected to file an application as early as Wednesday to officially create this unified union, according to sources. The proposed organization aims to recruit approximately 18,000 of SK hynix's 35,000 employees, thereby achieving the status of a majority union.

Currently, three separate labor unions are conducting independent negotiations with SK hynix's management. The preparatory committee, functioning as a provisional body formed by volunteers, will operate until official union leaders and an executive committee are elected.

The committee stated, "Our primary objective is to consolidate the demands of employees across all roles and regions, forming a union that represents the majority. We are dedicated to creating an organization where every member has equal voting rights and direct participation in decision-making, rather than a representative-centered model."

The union also plans to prioritize performance-based pay systems as a core demand. Sources indicated that the group is considering forming an alliance with the largest union at rival semiconductor giant Samsung Electronics.
