Churchill Downs Incorporated (CHDN) shares surged 7.24% in after-hours trading on Wednesday, following the release of second-quarter financial results that edged past analyst expectations and a series of strategic announcements.

The company reported Q2 revenue of $980 million, narrowly topping the IBES estimate of $978.2 million. Net income for the quarter came in at $241 million, with earnings per share of $3.42. The results reflected continued strength across Churchill Downs' gaming and racing portfolio.

In addition to the earnings beat, Churchill Downs announced a definitive agreement to acquire a 49% stake in United Tote Company from the New York Racing Association (NYRA), a move that expands its pari-mutuel wagering technology footprint. Separately, the company disclosed in an SEC filing that it is exploring the sale of nine regional gaming properties, a potential portfolio optimization that could unlock significant shareholder value.
