Japan's Air Self-Defense Force reported losing communication with one of its "Global Hawk" reconnaissance drones. According to the Japan Coast Guard, debris suspected to be from the "Global Hawk" was discovered off the western coast of Tottori Prefecture.

Self-Defense Force officials lost contact with the unmanned aircraft at approximately 1:00 PM local time, about 50 kilometers from the Tottori coast, and search operations are currently underway.

The missing drone is one of three "Global Hawk" units owned by Japan and was deployed at the Misawa Air Base.
