Surge in AI Demand Drives Intel to Announce $15 Billion Common Stock Offering

Intel announced on Monday its plan to issue $15 billion in common stock to support the surging demand for artificial intelligence computing power from customers. The company is focusing on three major growth areas: physical AI, specialized chips, and advanced packaging.

Tech giants have been ramping up capital expenditures this year to advance AI infrastructure construction. On July 23, 2026, the Intel headquarters building was in the spotlight as the company reported second-quarter revenue exceeding $16 billion. Intel stated that the new stock issuance is aimed at tackling the explosive growth in AI computing demand. Following the announcement, the stock fell 4% in early trading.

The chipmaker highlighted that physical AI, specialized chips, and advanced packaging represent significant growth opportunities. The funds raised will be used for corporate operations, including capital expenditures and working capital. In recent years, major tech companies have invested heavily to meet robust AI demand, continuously expanding computing infrastructure. Several large tech firms have raised their AI-related capital expenditure plans during this earnings season.

Goldman Sachs estimates that global AI capital expenditure in the tech industry could reach $765 billion this year, growing to $1.2 trillion by 2027. Amazon has provided the most aggressive capital expenditure guidance among leading companies. Intel's issuance plan includes a 30-day over-allotment option, allowing underwriters to purchase an additional up to $2.25 billion in common stock.
