Five mandatory national standards for the solar photovoltaic industry have been released, with outdated polysilicon capacity potentially facing elimination rates of up to 60%.

At the "2026 H1 Industry Review and H2 Outlook Seminar" hosted by the China Photovoltaic Industry Association, Pei Huichuan, Secretary-General of the National Solar Photovoltaic Energy System Standardization Technical Committee, outlined the latest progress in the standardization system's development.

He stated that in May, two mandatory national standards were published: the Photovoltaic Module Safety Requirements and the Photovoltaic Module Nameplate and Labeling Requirements. In June, three additional mandatory national standards were released, covering energy consumption limits for polysilicon and monocrystalline silicon, as well as the efficiency limit values for modules and inverters.

These five mandatory standards form a systematic, layered, and fully comprehensive framework, establishing quality and safety baselines from silicon materials and wafers through to modules and inverters. It is estimated that the polysilicon energy consumption standard could eliminate 25% to 60% of outdated capacity, the monocrystalline silicon standard could phase out roughly 30%, and the module standard could eliminate around 20% of outdated capacity.

Pei Huichuan revealed that the industry standards for photovoltaic product classification and grading currently under development will complement the mandatory standards, creating a structure where "mandatory standards set the baseline, and grading standards raise the benchmark."
