Lanzhou New Area Equips Cornfields with a "Smart Brain"

As autumn deepens, the vast 10,000-mu corn demonstration fields in Qinchuan Town and Shangchuan Town of Lanzhou New Area are on the verge of a bountiful harvest.

Rows upon rows of corn stalks stand thick and leafy, with plump husks and tassels swaying in the breeze.

Beside the field ridge, a uniquely shaped instrument rotates quietly, drawing curious stares from passersby: "What is this machine doing standing in the cornfield?"

"This is a pest monitoring device, a 'sentinel' stationed in the cornfield, keeping a 24-hour watch on pest and disease risks," explained Cao Duoyin, a facility agriculture technician at Lanzhou New Area Qinchuan Agricultural Investment and Development Co., Ltd., with a smile.

Since the beginning of this year, Lanzhou New Area has anchored its goal of stabilizing grain production and increasing yields, breaking away from traditional extensive farming models.

Relying on digital, intelligent, and precision modern agricultural management to activate land productivity, with premium seeds as the foundation, technology integration as support, and smart control as the core, the area has fully implemented the corn yield improvement project, laying a solid foundation for a bountiful autumn harvest.

The pest monitoring device is just one component of the entire smart agriculture system.

Strolling through the demonstration fields, smart agricultural equipment such as weather monitoring stations and soil moisture sensors are scattered across the ridges.

"What do these devices do?"

"They collect various types of field data 24 hours a day without interruption, transmitting it in real time to the backend command center, and rely on data to scientifically guide agricultural production. With this smart system, one person can manage 2,000 mu of land," Cao Duoyin said.

Today, field management has bid farewell to the old model of repeatedly patrolling the fields. Managers can remotely control the drip irrigation system through their mobile phones, precisely matching the cycle and amount of water and fertilizer supply.

While saving water and fertilizer and reducing planting costs, this ensures balanced corn growth and stabilizes field seedling conditions.

Relying on pest forecasting equipment, the system can also assess the risk of pest and disease outbreaks in advance, automatically push scientific prevention and control plans, achieve early warning and early response, reduce pesticide application, and safeguard grain quality and farmland ecology.

"Judging from the current growth of the corn in the fields, there is no problem with the demonstration fields increasing yield by an average of 100 kilograms per mu," Cao Duoyin said, his face full of joy at the harvest as he gazed at the thriving cornfield.

At the smart agriculture command center, the digital plot one-map system screen stands out prominently.

Here, the smart agriculture management and control system becomes even clearer.

"Soil moisture, crop growth, and management records for each plot are visually presented and dynamically updated, truly achieving digital farmland management and refined plot control," said Zhang Guotang, construction manager of the Lanzhou New Area corn yield improvement project.

Smart management has filled the gaps of traditional agriculture, making corn growth more stable and risk-resistant, unleashing grain yield potential — equivalent to installing a "smart brain" in the farmland.
