The 2025 New Energy Intelligent Vehicle New Quality Development Forum unfolded in Changchun, Jilin Province on July 15-16, themed "New Quality Leads the Way, Intelligence Creates the Future." Pang Shuyi, Deputy Chief Engineer of Intelligent Driving at Great Wall Motor, delivered a pivotal address highlighting critical challenges in autonomous technology development.

Pang emphasized data loops as the cornerstone of driving assistance systems, revealing that over half of Great Wall Motor's resources in this domain focus on building comprehensive capabilities across data annotation platforms, management frameworks, and training infrastructures. Since launching Coffee Pilot Ultra, the company's combined driving assistance systems have accumulated over 100 million kilometers of operational data, generating more than 10 petabytes of valuable feedback.

To harness this data deluge, Great Wall Motor has deployed robust cloud computing resources and established an advanced open-source large model foundation. This enables an efficient closed-loop mechanism encompassing cold-start collection, refined screening, manual refinement, and model training—dramatically accelerating data processing capabilities. These curated datasets continuously enhance the training library, driving unprecedented efficiency gains.

"This powerful data ecosystem has catalyzed remarkable R&D acceleration," Pang noted. "Within a single year, we've optimized over 500 functions while introducing 50 entirely new features to our systems."

Addressing digital twins, Pang reflected that virtual simulations revolutionized performance and durability testing decades ago. In today's AI era, he acknowledged simulations' growing importance amid evolving world models, yet delivered a sobering assessment: "We must recognize that for several years ahead, simulations won't fully replicate real-world conditions. The gap persists." He advocated a balanced approach—advancing simulation technology while intensifying real-vehicle validation to ensure safety in increasingly complex autonomous systems.

Concluding with Great Wall Motor's philosophical bedrock, Pang declared safety the non-negotiable standard for intelligent driving. "Coffee Pilot Ultra's accolades validate our achievements while setting higher expectations," he stated. "Powered by AI's relentless evolution, we'll continue pioneering intelligent solutions that deliver safer, smarter mobility experiences to consumers worldwide."
