Direxion Daily Semiconductors Bull 3x Shares (SOXL) tumbled 9.68% in pre-market trading, as a confluence of negative catalysts triggered a broad sell-off in the global semiconductor sector and amplified losses in the leveraged ETF.

The sharp decline was fueled by escalating concerns over the sustainability of massive artificial intelligence infrastructure investments. A report suggesting Nvidia could provide substantial funding for an OpenAI data center project reignited doubts about the viability of the AI capital expenditure cycle. This was compounded by TSMC's plans to raise wafer fabrication prices by up to 10% in 2027 and impose a surcharge on high-performance computing orders, intensifying fears of chip inflation across the supply chain.

Additionally, growing competition from China added to the negative sentiment. Reports of China's progress in localizing lithography equipment, coupled with the explosive trading debut of Chinese memory chip maker CXMT, stoked fears of increased pressure on established global semiconductor players. As a 3x leveraged ETF that tracks an index of major U.S.-listed semiconductor companies, SOXL's pre-market plunge reflected the outsized impact of these sector-wide headwinds.
