Stock Track | Direxion Daily MU Bull 2X Shares Plunges 5.86% in Pre-market on Mounting Memory Chip Overcapacity Fears

Direxion Daily MU Bull 2X Shares (MUU), a leveraged exchange-traded fund designed to deliver twice the daily performance of Micron Technology Inc., experienced a sharp pre-market plunge of 5.86%.

The significant drop is attributed to renewed investor concerns over potential long-term overcapacity in the global memory chip market. This sentiment follows announcements from all three major memory giants—Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron itself—of massive capital expansion plans within a single week, with Samsung and SK Hynix collectively committing up to $880 billion and Micron planning over $250 billion in U.S. investment through 2035. The sheer scale of these investments has sparked fears that new supply coming online between 2027 and 2028 could significantly outstrip demand, negatively impacting future pricing and profitability for industry players like Micron.

Adding to the supply concerns, specific reports indicate SK Hynix is resuming the second-phase expansion of its Dalian factory in China, targeting a new production line by 2026. Furthermore, the U.S. Commerce Secretary has publicly urged competitors Samsung and SK Hynix to accelerate their memory chip production expansion within the United States. As a 2x leveraged product, the MUU ETF's price movements are amplified relative to the underlying stock's performance, making it particularly sensitive to such sector-wide fears.
