The E Fund Biotech ETF (03186) has climbed sharply, gaining close to 8% in early trading. At the time of writing, the fund is up 7.7%, trading at HK$15.80 with a turnover of HK$2.64 million.

The surge comes after vaccine giant Moderna's first successful Phase 3 trial of an "mRNA personalized cancer vaccine" sent its shares soaring 177% overnight, triggering a broad rally across the biotech sector. The Nasdaq Biotechnology Index jumped 6.4%, marking its largest single-day gain in six years. This morning, multiple Hong Kong-listed related concept stocks also surged over 50%.

This milestone represents the first Phase 3 trial to demonstrate efficacy for a personalized neoantigen therapy, as well as the first positive Phase 3 readout for an mRNA-based cancer treatment. It provides concrete evidence that therapeutic cancer vaccines can move beyond theoretical concepts into viable clinical applications.

According to public data, the E Fund Biotech ETF tracks the Solactive Biotech Select Index, which focuses on Hong Kong and US-listed biotech companies. The fund offers a single access point to both deep US pipeline assets and China's growth dividend. It is designed for disciplined allocation to Hong Kong and US innovative drug beta, particularly during this validation window for tumor immunotherapy and mRNA platform technologies.
