Samsung Electronics announced on Tuesday the formation of a new robotics business division, a move by the Korean tech giant to carve out a fresh growth avenue, which lifted its share price.

The company stated in an email announcement that the newly established RX (Robot eXperience Business Division) will consolidate all robotics technology resources within the group to systematically drive mid-to-long-term strategy, covering the entire process from core technology development to product commercialization. This division will report directly to Samsung Electronics CEO Roh Tae-moon.

On the day of the announcement, Samsung Electronics shares rose 6.76%, while the benchmark KOSPI index gained approximately 4%.

The establishment of the new division underscores Samsung's aggressive push into the field of physical 人工智能. Earlier this month, CEO Roh Tae-moon revealed at a public briefing in Jinju that Samsung Electronics plans to invest about 60 trillion won (approximately $407 billion) in the Yeongnam region, which includes the Gumi Industrial Complex.

Back in late 2024, Samsung had increased its stake in domestic firm Rainbow Robotics, becoming its largest shareholder. Of the total investment, 19 trillion won is earmarked for the Gumi Industrial Complex, where Samsung, in collaboration with Samsung SDS, will build physical 人工智能 infrastructure and a humanoid robot production base.

The new division also plans to establish research and development centers in the United States and Japan.
