Cinemark Holdings Inc. (CNK) saw its stock price plummet 5.42% during intraday trading on Friday, following the release of its first-quarter 2026 financial results.

The theatrical exhibition company reported a smaller-than-expected quarterly loss of $0.06 per share, beating the FactSet consensus estimate of a $0.12 loss. Revenue for the quarter rose 18.9% year-over-year to $643.1 million, also surpassing analyst expectations of $632.7 million. Despite these positive beats, the market reaction was negative, with the stock declining significantly.

The sell-off appears to reflect investor concerns about the company's continued losses, with Cinemark posting a net loss of $6.4 million for the quarter, and potential profit-taking after the stock's strong performance earlier this year. The company's results showed improvement from the prior year's $39 million loss, but the persistence of red ink may have disappointed some investors expecting faster progress toward profitability.
