US Stock Market Movers: Semiconductor Sector Rallies as Intel Surges Over 7%

Stock News
08/04

On Tuesday, the semiconductor sector experienced broad gains, with Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) surging over 7%, SanDisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) advancing more than 6%, and SK Hynix (OTC: SKHY), Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU), and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) all climbing over 5%. Meanwhile, Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO), Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM), and ASML (NASDAQ: ASML) rose more than 3%, while Seagate Technology (NASDAQ: STX), Western Digital (NASDAQ: WDC), and NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) gained over 2%.

Latest disclosures indicate that Intel is aggressively advancing construction of its large-scale wafer fab campus in Ohio, targeting full operations by 2031. To accelerate project completion, the company is offering employees substantial overtime bonuses to push forward construction progress. The campus spans approximately 1,000 acres and will produce Intel's "Angstrom-era" 18A and 14A process nodes, with plans for mass production of the 14A process by 2031.

Additionally, Intel's EMIB-T advanced packaging technology has achieved significant progress, with costs roughly 50% lower than Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's (NYSE: TSM) CoWoS solution. Intel expects to offer this packaging service at scale by 2027. Currently, the packaging yield for this technology is approaching 90%, but substrate yields remain at only about 50%, which is a major bottleneck for capacity expansion. Related suppliers are actively working to improve corresponding output and yields.
