McDonald's is set to make its debut in Qinghai! The first outlet in the province will open on December 21 at Beicheng Qiqu Plaza in Haihu New District, Xining, marking a milestone for the global fast-food chain in the region while offering locals a fresh dining experience.
As a globally renowned fast-food brand, McDonald's had long been absent from Qinghai's market, making its entry highly anticipated. Currently, construction is nearing completion at the site. The two-story standalone building is taking shape, with outdoor road paving, underground pipeline installation, and temporary parking space planning progressing smoothly. Inside, the layout—including the dining area, ordering counter, and kitchen—is clearly defined, with workers finalizing interior decorations. Notably, as Qinghai's first McDonald's Drive-Thru location, the dedicated lane and pickup channel are already complete, enabling customers to order and receive meals without leaving their cars.
The second floor features floor-to-ceiling windows, blending McDonald's signature minimalist modern design with a bright and airy dining atmosphere. "The store spans over 1,000 square meters with 220 seats, accommodating nearly 300 diners at full capacity," said Yu Fei, McDonald's engineering manager. Upon completion, it will become the largest standalone Drive-Thru restaurant in Northwest China, combining standardized service with unique spatial design to cater to diverse dining preferences.
To boost the "first-store economy" and meet consumers' evolving demands, Qinghai's commerce authorities collaborated closely with CITIC Group and McDonald's China to facilitate the brand's entry. "From initial negotiations to approvals, we’ve experienced strong government support, accelerating our expansion plans," Yu noted. He highlighted Qinghai's robust economic growth, rising consumer spending, and Xining's vibrant commercial environment as key factors driving McDonald's decision to establish a presence.
Final preparations are underway, including staff training, supply chain setup, and equipment calibration, ensuring a seamless and high-quality experience for customers upon opening.
