A high-level expert team on rare earth permanent magnet materials has launched a targeted service program in Baotou, aiming to bolster the resilience and expansion of the local rare earth industry cluster. Organized by the regional Human Resources and Social Security Department, the initiative is part of a national key project dispatching specialists to grassroots enterprises.
Ten leading experts in the domestic rare earth permanent magnet field are focusing on four key areas: technical breakthroughs, process upgrades, talent cultivation, and technology commercialization. The team is conducting on-site diagnostics, technical seminars, and hands-on guidance across six major enterprises, including Northern Rare Earth Magnetic Materials, to identify innovation bottlenecks and empower industrial growth.
At the production frontlines, the experts are providing technical direction on optimizing process flows, enhancing product quality, and implementing new technologies to help companies resolve operational pain points and strengthen their competitive edge in the rare earth permanent magnet market. Specialized training sessions are being held for corporate R&D personnel and technical backbone staff, leveraging the mentorship of top-tier talent to cultivate a professional, versatile industry workforce.
The team is also connecting with downstream application markets in new energy and high-end equipment to guide companies in iterating new processes, developing innovative products, and fostering coordinated development across the industrial chain. Mu Yi, an associate professor at Nanchang Hangkong University and a member of the expert team, noted that the group will align with local industrial realities, precisely address corporate technology needs, and help rare earth enterprises achieve greater innovation breakthroughs.
"The experts' on-site visits have directly tackled our practical challenges, showing us the government's support for corporate innovation," said Zuo Jingyan, R&D manager at Jingli Yongci (Baotou) Technology Co., Ltd.'s Technical Division One. "The customized talent development programs they offer are helping us overcome critical production technologies and safeguard steady company growth."
Li Bo, Party Secretary of the Baotou Rare Earth Research Institute, acknowledged that the experts have resolved both theoretical questions at the R&D level and practical operational challenges on the production floor. He emphasized that this support is vital for companies to break through technological barriers, accelerate the commercialization of research outcomes, build a strong rare earth talent pool, and establish a sustainable industrial innovation ecosystem.
Moving forward, the regional Human Resources and Social Security Department will systematically compile and summarize the technical demands and strategic recommendations raised by the experts to ensure the service outcomes are effectively implemented. The department plans to continue building platforms for industry-academia-research collaboration, leverage national-level expert resources, and activate corporate innovation momentum—thereby reinforcing the region's rare earth industry's technological and talent foundations to drive higher-quality development across the sector.
