On January 26, 2026, BYD and UNESCO officially launched the third season of the "Light Chaser Project" at the BYD Space in Tianjin, aiming to empower a green future with new energy technology. The collaboration will leverage BYD's core strengths in new energy technology and UNESCO's extensive experience in sustainable development to jointly build a new ecosystem for public welfare cooperation in sustainability.

Key attendees at the event included Pang Bo, Brand Director of BYD Group's Brand and Public Relations Department; Pan Liang, Chief Sustainability Officer; Shahbaz Khan, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia; Ai Sugiura, Head of the Natural Sciences Sector; Luo Jinfei, Vice Chairman of the Tianjin Association for Science and Technology; and Zhang Wei, Director of the International Cooperation Department.

The third season of the "Light Chaser Project" integrates UNESCO's expert resources and ecological governance experience. It will organize BYD owners to conduct scientific research and data monitoring in four distinct ecological settings: the Hailuogou Glacier, Tianmu Mountain Forest, Dongting Lake Wetland, and the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park, ultimately developing replicable ecological conservation solutions. Pang Bo, Brand Director of BYD Group's Brand and Public Relations Department, stated that BYD remains committed to driving the energy transition through technology and fulfilling its environmental mission. In 2025, BYD sold over 4.6 million new energy vehicles, with its passenger new energy vehicles accumulating a total driving distance exceeding 400.7 billion kilometers, reducing carbon emissions by 43.29 million tons. This partnership with UNESCO to advance the third season of the "Light Chaser Project" aims to translate BYD's technological advantages into tangible ecological protection efforts, thereby realizing its brand vision of "Cooling the Earth by 1°C."

Shahbaz Khan, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, emphasized that UNESCO is dedicated to exploring solutions for the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature. He noted that this collaboration with BYD represents a significant cross-sectoral effort to address global ecological challenges, combining UNESCO's global ecological governance expertise with BYD's technological strengths for synergistic impact.

Following the launch ceremony, Shahbaz Khan presented BYD Space with a plaque designating it as the "Light Chaser Project - Sustainable Development Education Practice Base." Subsequently, the BYD Space will serve as a showcase for the third season of the project, presenting to the public the outcomes of technology-enabled ecological restoration. Immediately afterward, guests participated in a roundtable discussion on "Biodiversity." Ai Sugiura highlighted that ecosystem restoration requires the coordinated advancement of technology, community involvement, and local governance. Zhou Weidong, Chief Representative of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development China Office, remarked that this cooperative model encourages companies to move from making statements to solving problems, exploring new pathways for Chinese enterprises to engage in global biodiversity governance. Du Jin, a member of the IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy, observed that the third season of BYD's "Light Chaser Project" demonstrates a corporate shift from risk assessment to substantive action. Such proactive strategic investments, he noted, help companies seize the initiative and mitigate systemic risks.

This cross-border collaboration marks a milestone in BYD's deepening public welfare practices and serves as a vivid example of a Chinese company leveraging its technological strengths to participate in global ecological governance. Moving forward, BYD will join hands with more partners to continuously empower ecological conservation through technological innovation, writing a new chapter in the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature.
