Guohuan Town Deploys Drone Technology to Boost Post-Disaster Recovery and Reconstruction

Guohuan Town has introduced an innovative approach to address the challenging conditions of low-lying areas, narrow rural paths, and extensive blind spots along the Wuqi and Tangtou river basins. By integrating drone-based technical surveillance with ground personnel patrols, the town has established a three-dimensional disaster response system. This technology-driven strategy strengthens flood control, emergency rescue operations, hazard inspections, and post-disaster recovery across the entire region.

Adopting a proactive stance, the town activates aerial pre-inspection missions before heavy rainfall hits. Drones conduct comprehensive surveys over riverbanks, flood-prone zones, field drainage channels, and riverside structures at risk. These early sweeps help identify potential threats and allow authorities to resolve vulnerabilities in advance, reducing flood-related damage at its source.

Following intense rainfall, many roads suffered severe waterlogging, mud accumulation, and slippery slopes, making traditional foot patrols unreliable due to limited visibility and inaccessible locations. In response, the town deploys drones for round-the-clock aerial monitoring. Leveraging their high-altitude flexibility and broad coverage, drones track water level fluctuations, slope shifts, and sediment buildup in rivers. Simultaneously, aerial imaging captures flood-affected areas, precisely covering deep-water zones, steep embankments, and remote plots that ground teams cannot safely reach. This ensures full-spectrum, no-blind-spot observation of water conditions and risks, markedly improving patrol efficiency and operational safety.

During post-disaster damage assessments, the town capitalizes on the precise and visual capabilities of drone photography. Comprehensive aerial reviews document collapsed structures, severely flooded locations, and temporary shelter sites, marking and cataloging each with classification details. These efforts produce a clear overview of affected areas and underlying risk inventory, providing solid data support for informed disaster evaluation and orderly emergency management.

Guohuan Town has simultaneously established a coordinated mechanism combining aerial intelligence gathering with on-ground task forces. Based on drone survey results, authorities pinpoint risk zones, prioritize responses by urgency, and execute targeted operations such as resident relocations, drainage clearing, and hazard barrier installation. This approach minimizes unnecessary inspections and duplicate workloads, making flood response more precise and effective. Additionally, the aerial survey findings serve as critical references for post-disaster hazard remediation, river channel improvements, and farmland restoration, allowing for scientifically planned rebuilding schedules and systematic repair efforts to minimize overall disaster losses.
