These everyday scenes paint a vivid picture of how this resettlement community has cracked the code on serving its residents and solving complex governance challenges. Wanfu is a rebuilt neighborhood for families relocated from four riverside villages, and it has an unusually high proportion of older residents, many of whom live apart from their children. Daily chores like cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking, and making medical visits become uphill battles for these seniors — daunting tasks that seem small but weigh heavily on their lives.

So who is best suited to handle these seemingly trivial routines? Wanfu’s answer lies in giving residents the power to choose their own property management. The community’s integrated Party branch and homeowners’ committee took the lead, organizing a general assembly where residents selected KWG LIVING to manage the neighborhood. When residents pick their own service providers, the care feels more personal and attentive.

To uncover what the seniors truly need, the management team went door to door, conducting surveys with a focus on those with mobility issues or whose children are frequently away. They crafted tailored service plans for each individual — from grocery delivery and meal prep to personal hygiene assistance and home organization. Beyond meeting physical needs, the property team also steps into a guardian role. Staff make daily check-in calls to seniors with limited mobility or those living alone, and conduct routine home visits. This steady rhythm of outreach means help arrives quickly in emergencies and provides a safety net for daily well-being. That commitment proved its worth in a crisis on July 6, when a tornado struck. The team sounded the alarm immediately: they filled sandbags, reinforced defenses, moved every vehicle into the underground garage, and went building by building to secure windows and doors. They also relocated several high-risk seniors to the company’s care center, where dedicated staff looked after them through the night. Amid the chaos, their clothes were soaked and dried repeatedly, but their resolve never wavered. One elderly resident, Grandma Liu, later reflected: “That night, seeing them run back and forth with people, I thought to myself — with them here, we have nothing to fear.”

Solving daily difficulties was just the first step. To keep seniors engaged and fulfilled, the community needed creative solutions. Wanfu Community coordinated with the Huangzhou Industrial Park to secure land for public facilities and build a resident activity center, which opened its doors in January as a senior university. The school offers dance, vocal music, calligraphy, and other courses tailored to residents’ interests. Now, dozens of seniors gather in the dance studio every day to rehearse and socialize, making it the liveliest hub in the neighborhood. It’s not just a way to pass the time; it’s a newfound sense of purpose.

Resident Dong Xinlian shared her joy: “I’m grateful the community gave us such a wonderful space. Before, my life after work was dull and there was nowhere to go. Now, with the senior school, I get to meet like-minded friends and interact — we’re truly happy.”

With attentive caregivers and a supportive community foundation, everyone benefits. Wanfu has extended its service network to every senior in need, showing genuine compassion in the small details and stepping up boldly in moments of crisis. Through these steadfast efforts, the community lifts up the golden years of its residents, making this 1,200-home rebuilt neighborhood a true sanctuary where people can live comfortably, happily, and at peace.
