Sichuan's Consumer Prices Rise 1.4% Year-on-Year in April

Data released on the 12th shows that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Sichuan Province increased by 1.4% year-on-year in April, with the growth rate expanding by 0.3 percentage points compared to the previous month. Within this, non-food prices rose by 2.1%, and consumer goods prices increased by 1.0%.

On a month-on-month basis, Sichuan's CPI rose by 0.4% in April, shifting from a decline in the prior month and expanding by 0.9 percentage points. Non-food prices increased by 0.8%, while consumer goods prices went up by 0.3%.

In the food category, prices for cooking oil rose by 2.1%, fresh fruit increased by 2.3%, poultry prices went up by 0.9%, and egg prices rose by 0.7%. Conversely, livestock meat prices fell by 8.9%, contributing to a decrease of approximately 0.47 percentage points in the CPI, with pork prices specifically dropping by 17.2% and impacting the CPI by about 0.46 percentage points.

Year-on-year, prices across eight major categories showed a pattern of "six increases and two decreases." Specifically, prices for other goods and services surged by 10.0%, transportation and communication costs rose by 5.5%, healthcare expenses increased by 3.5%, clothing prices went up by 2.2%, education, culture, and entertainment costs rose by 2.2%, and prices for household goods and services increased by 1.2%. In contrast, prices for food, alcohol, and dining out decreased by 1.2%.

Additionally, in April, Sichuan's Producer Price Index (PPI) for industrial products rose by 0.8% year-on-year and increased by 0.5% month-on-month. The industrial producer purchase price index (IPI) saw a year-on-year increase of 7.4% and a month-on-month rise of 1.8%.
