As the 2026 Year of the Horse Spring Festival approaches, competition among internet platforms for viewership of the Spring Festival Gala is intensifying. On February 5, Bilibili Inc. announced it has once again partnered with China Central Television for the 2026 Spring Festival Gala, becoming the exclusive live-commentary video platform for the event. Viewers will not only be able to watch the gala live on Bilibili but also interact in real time with users across the platform through the live-commentary feature, creating a virtual reunion experience tailored for younger audiences. Statistics show that on New Year's Eve last year, over 100 million people watched the gala live on Bilibili, with 83% of viewers under the age of 30. Beyond viewing and discussing the program, young users actively created secondary content inspired by the gala. Following the 2025 gala rerun, playback views exceeded 300 million, while user-generated content accumulated over 2.54 billion views, including several viral hits with tens of millions of views. Among these, creative adaptations of the robotic dance performance "YangBOT"—such as parody edits, technical analyses, and meme compilations—were the most prolific and popular with young audiences. The robotic reinterpretation of the classic skit "The Lead and the Supporting Role" within "YangBOT" exemplifies this trend. This collaboration represents a strategic move by CCTV to engage younger viewers. In recent years, the gala has continuously innovated its content by incorporating elements from anime, traditional Chinese aesthetics, and technology. From passive viewing to active participation, young people are redefining Spring Festival traditions in the digital age through interactive and creative engagement.
