JetBlue Airways Unveils New Domestic First Class and Overhauls Fare Structure

JetBlue Airways has announced plans to launch a new domestic first-class product called "BlueFirst" by the end of 2026, alongside a comprehensive restructuring of its cabin fare system that introduces more restrictive "Base" fares across multiple premium cabins.

The new BlueFirst first-class cabin will primarily be installed on aircraft that do not currently feature the Mint business-class product, offering wider reclining seats designed to bridge the service gap between standard economy and lie-flat business cabins. The cabin's name aligns with the airline's signature blue color scheme and its TrueBlue frequent flyer program.

Alongside the new cabin's introduction, JetBlue Airways has redefined its cabin classes into four categories: Main, EvenMore (premium economy), BlueFirst (first class), and Mint (business class). In terms of fare structure, a Base fare will now be introduced for all cabins except business class, while retaining the existing Standard and Flex fare options for travelers.

The Base fare, while offering a lower entry price, comes with strict restrictions. Passengers purchasing this ticket type will not receive complimentary seat selection and will be charged extra fees for any changes or cancellations. Additionally, loyalty points accumulation for these tickets will drop from the standard rate of 3 points per dollar spent to just 1 point. Passengers holding a Base fare in the Main or EvenMore cabins will also be ineligible to access the airline's BlueHouse airport lounges. All Base fare passengers will still be permitted to carry one standard-sized carry-on bag.

This move signals that JetBlue Airways is following in the footsteps of Delta Air Lines and United Airlines by expanding the use of basic economy fares to premium cabins, extending its unbundled service model further up the cabin hierarchy.

JetBlue Airways President Marty St. George noted that the new system aims to provide travelers with clearer booking options, allowing them to tailor their travel plans based on their specific needs regarding cabin experience, seat selection, and ticket change and cancellation policies.
