Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, launched a sharp critique on Monday against New York City Mayor Zoran Mammadani's proposal to launch city-run grocery stores across the five boroughs, reiterating his prediction that robotics and artificial intelligence will eventually provide free goods and services.

In a post on the X platform, All-In podcast host Jason Calacanis shared a video where Mammadani stated that New York City would issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) to select individuals or businesses to operate the municipal grocery stores. Calacanis noted that the RFP selection process would follow diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.

Calacanis then remarked that the current New York City administration lacks basic business acumen. He also pointed out that Costco Wholesale Corporation already sells grocery items at near "zero profit margins."

Musk responded to Calacanis, vehemently criticizing Mammadani's plan. The billionaire wrote in the post: "Their actions are completely pointless. Those speculators falsely promise free goods and services, while artificial intelligence and robotics technology are what can truly achieve this."

He added that the city government's approach is essentially "robbing others," before directly labeling Mammadani a "thief and a liar."
