Xichuan County Launches Financial Cybersecurity Awareness Day to Protect Residents' Assets

On September 18, the Xichuan County Financial Regulatory Office organized local banking institutions to host a "Financial Day" themed campaign as part of the 2026 National Cybersecurity Awareness Week. The initiative aims to strengthen the county's cyber defense framework and enhance the digital literacy and risk prevention capabilities of the general public.

Prior to the event, the regulatory office communicated requirements from the county's internet affairs committee and higher-level authorities to all banking institutions, outlining specific tasks. The promotional focus covered secure usage of financial apps, protection of personal financial information, identification of phishing websites, and prevention of financial fraud targeting elderly residents. A dual-track approach combining online and offline educational activities was implemented across the county.

Bank branches leveraged their lobby facilities as frontline platforms, using LED screens to cycle through awareness slogans and cybersecurity educational videos. Posters and brochures were prominently displayed in service areas. Staff engaged customers waiting for services in one-on-one educational sessions, advising them to safeguard bank cards and SMS verification codes while preventing unauthorized disclosure of personal financial data. Using real-world cases involving illegal fundraising, rebate scams, and fraudulent online loans, personnel explained relevant laws including the Cybersecurity Law and the Personal Information Protection Law, effectively transforming branches into primary hubs for cybersecurity education.

The regulatory office also deployed targeted outreach tailored to different demographic groups. For elderly clients, staff provided hands-on guidance on identifying counterfeit financial apps and highlighted common traps such as "housing-for-pension" schemes and "high-yield wealth management" scams. For students and younger individuals, the focus was on risks associated with online lending and personal data breaches. These interactive and relatable discussions helped embed financial cybersecurity knowledge into daily awareness.

Simultaneously, financial institutions capitalized on their digital platforms, using official WeChat accounts and customer groups to distribute educational articles, anti-fraud videos, legal interpretations, and alerts on emerging risks like AI face-swapping fraud and cryptocurrency transactions. This expanded the campaign's reach beyond geographic limits, broadening the dissemination of cybersecurity information.

The campaign distributed over 800 informational materials, educated more than 600 residents on financial cybersecurity, and addressed over 300 in-person consultations. Through comprehensive and multi-channel outreach, public awareness of personal data protection and risk identification was markedly improved. Moving forward, financial institutions in Xichuan County will persist in fulfilling their social responsibilities by conducting routine cybersecurity education, safeguarding the public's financial assets, and contributing to a secure and transparent county-level digital environment.
