On Thursday, Dell Technologies Inc. (DELL.US) saw its stock price rise over 3%, reaching $315.74. The increase follows an announcement from the U.S. Department of Defense that Dell has secured a major five-year defense software contract valued at approximately $9.7 billion. Under this agreement, Dell will provide Microsoft enterprise software, cloud subscriptions, and licensing services to the U.S. military.

Kirsten Davies, the Pentagon's Chief Information Officer, stated, "Dell Federal Systems outbid several strong competitors to win this five-year contract, which is expected to save the Department of Defense $422 million annually." Market analysts noted that Dell has long been a significant purchaser of Microsoft Windows PC licenses, with the two companies maintaining a deep and enduring partnership. This substantial government software contract is viewed as a key extension of Dell and Microsoft's corporate collaboration into the defense sector.
