The Seoul Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) finished Friday's trading session with a robust 17.9% surge, setting a new record for its most significant single-day percentage increase ever recorded.
Despite Friday's sharp rally, the KOSPI recorded a weekly decline of 1.4% and a monthly drop of 22.2% on a closing basis, which is the steepest monthly fall since October 2008.
Foreign investors were net buyers of KOSPI shares on Friday, purchasing a total of 7.2 trillion won. This figure represents the largest single-day net purchase on record.
