U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that he is indifferent to updating the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), as Canada reveals plans to send senior trade officials to Washington for further negotiations this week.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said the USMCA is more critical for Mexico and Canada than for the United States. When asked about the possibility of updating the pact, Trump remarked, "I don't care. I mean, I don't even want to do it. I prefer to be independent. The bottom line is, Mexico and Canada need us, but we don't need them. This deal is important to them, but it's not important to us."

The Trump administration decided on July 1 not to renew the USMCA under its current terms, initiating a 10-year sunset process unless the three nations can agree on revised terms within that period.
