Monster Beverage's stock surged 5.25% in after-hours trading following the release of its first-quarter financial results, which significantly exceeded analyst expectations.
The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.58, beating the consensus estimate of $0.53 by 9.43%. Quarterly sales rose to $2.35 billion, surpassing the expected $2.16 billion by 9.03% and representing a 26.9% increase from the same period last year. The strong performance was driven by robust demand for energy drinks, with net sales in the Monster Energy Drinks segment rising 27.6% year-over-year. International sales were particularly strong, jumping 44.9% and accounting for 45% of total net sales.
Additionally, the positive market sentiment was bolstered by an analyst upgrade from Rothschild & Co Redburn, which raised its rating on Monster Beverage to Buy from Neutral and increased its price target to $90 from $76. CEO Hilton H. Schlosberg noted that "the global energy drink category continues to demonstrate solid growth, driven by increased consumer demand."
