A topic stating that only one out of eight banking apps displays the holding yield has surged to the top of search trends on January 5, sparking widespread discussion among netizens.

A recent media test examined eight major banking apps to assess how they present performance data for customers' existing holdings, including apps from Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank, China Merchants Bank, Industrial Bank, China Minsheng Bank, WeBank, MyBank, and Bank of Shanghai.

The investigation revealed that most mobile banking apps typically showcase annualized returns across different time frames on their product pages, such as since inception, the past year, past month, or past three months, with a common industry practice being to highlight whichever figure appears most favorable.

Among the eight banking apps tested, only one included the holding annualized yield in its performance display, allowing wealth management clients to directly compare the historical returns shown on the product detail page with the actual returns generated since their purchase.

In response, some netizens expressed frustration, noting that they purchased wealth management products attracted by high advertised yields, only to find the actual returns significantly lower.

Others commented that yield presentations often contain misleading elements, making it exceedingly difficult for average investors to discern the true performance.
