Industry data released on Thursday revealed that U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors remained the best-selling imported passenger car brand in South Korea for the seventh straight month in August. According to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA), newly registered imported passenger vehicles totaled 29,817 units last month, marking a 9.2% increase year-over-year.

Tesla led the market with sales of 10,400 units, maintaining its dominant position since February. BMW followed in second place with 6,180 units, while Mercedes-Benz secured third with 3,959 units, and BYD ranked fourth with 2,846 units. The Tesla Model Y Premium emerged as the top-selling imported model last month, with 7,490 units sold.

Driven by robust demand for electric vehicles from brands such as Tesla and BYD, EVs accounted for nearly half of all imported passenger car registrations in August, totaling 15,183 units.
