China Eastern Airlines reported mixed operating data for June 2026, with passenger capacity softening year on year but load factors and cargo performance improving.

Passenger traffic • Available seat-kilometres (ASK) dropped 3.89% to 24.45 billion, while revenue passenger-kilometres (RPK) eased 3.36% to 21.17 billion. • The passenger load factor nonetheless edged up 0.47 percentage points to 86.61%, reflecting tighter capacity management. • Domestic weakness dominated: domestic ASK contracted 5.57% and RPK fell 7.15%. International capacity was broadly flat (-0.31%) but traffic rose 4.68%, lifting the international load factor by 4.16 points to 87.24%. • Total passengers carried declined 8.13% to 11.08 million, with domestic volumes off 9.29% and international volumes down a milder 1.72%.

Cargo operations • Revenue freight tonne-kilometres (RFTK) increased 4.69% year on year to 360.17 million, outpacing a 5.59% reduction in available freight tonne-kilometres (AFTK). Freight load factor improved 4.78 points to 48.70%. • International freight demand was the key driver: international RFTK advanced 6.02%, lifting the segment’s load factor to 53.10%.

Year-to-date performance (Jan–Jun 2026) • Cumulative ASK rose 1.74% to 157.72 billion; RPK grew 4.29% to 137.12 billion. • The six-month passenger load factor expanded 2.13 points to 86.94%, supported by a 12.18% surge in international traffic versus a 0.20% dip in domestic capacity. • Freight momentum remained firm, with RFTK up 13.01% to 2.18 billion and the freight load factor climbing 4.66 points to 41.66%. • Overall revenue tonne-kilometres (RTK) increased 5.57% to 14.26 billion, lifting the consolidated load factor by 2.93 points to 73.36%.

Fleet developments • Nine aircraft were inducted during June—seven Airbus A320s, one Boeing 787, and one C919—while three A320s were retired. • The fleet stood at 833 aircraft at end-June, comprising 114 wide-bodies, 687 narrow-bodies, and 32 regional jets.

Network expansion • Domestic additions included new Shanghai Hongqiao–Yining services and frequency increases on key trunk routes such as Shanghai Hongqiao–Yinchuan and Beijing Daxing–Wuhan. • International growth featured new Shanghai Pudong links to Zurich and Adelaide, plus resumed services to Stockholm and Singapore, alongside additional frequencies to Frankfurt, Geneva and other destinations.
