The price of cotton futures on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) has experienced a volatile upward movement. Concurrently, Myanmar is currently expanding its cotton planting efforts.

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) Cotton Futures Market Recap for July 17th:

On July 17th, the opening price for U.S. cotton futures was 79.22 cents, reaching a high of 79.27 cents and a low of 77.73 cents before settling at a closing price of 78.67 cents, marking a decline of 0.62%.

Latest Cotton Market Updates

On July 17th, the number of cotton futures warehouse receipts registered at the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange was 10,775, a decrease of 61 from the previous trading day.

Domestic sales of national cotton reserves are scheduled to commence on July 20, 2026. For the first week, the standard-grade selling base price for the reserve cotton rotation is set at 16,291 yuan per ton.

According to foreign media reports, Myanmar is viewing cotton as a potential economic lifeline. This initiative aims to revitalize struggling rural communities and generate much-needed foreign exchange income against a backdrop of prolonged economic slowdown. Myanmar is currently expanding cotton cultivation, with national cotton output already exceeding 44,800 metric tons. Presently, approximately 218,500 hectares of farmland are dedicated to cotton planting.
