Metro Holdings Limited announced on Jul, 20 2026 that it will progressively exit its large-format department stores at Paragon and Causeway Point when the current leases end, shifting towards a flexible network of smaller multi-concept stores in Singapore.

The company said the new format will focus on enhanced customer engagement, specialised retail concepts and greater operational agility. Management is in talks with existing and prospective landlords to secure suitable sites, taking into account location, rental terms, financial viability and implementation timelines.

Metro’s chairman Tan Soo Khoon stated that the move follows a comprehensive review of the local retail landscape and is aimed at positioning the group for long-term sustainable growth. Group CEO Yip Hoong Mun added that the refreshed strategy will allow quicker introduction of new concepts, brands and partnerships.

The group will also continue expanding its presence through Grand Brands Asia Pte Ltd, its brand-management joint venture that brings international lifestyle labels to Singapore.

Metro is currently assessing the financial implications of the transition. Based on information available, the board does not expect a material impact on consolidated net tangible assets or earnings per share for the financial year ending Mar, 31 2027.

Founded in 1957 and listed on the Singapore Exchange Mainboard since 1973, Metro operates two core segments: property investment and development, and retail, with assets in Singapore, China, Indonesia, the UK and Australia.
