A man has been detained just minutes after stealing over 156 grams of gold jewelry from a store in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, citing financial desperation ahead of the Lunar New Year as his motive.

During an evening patrol, officers from the Fushan Police Station received an alert about a robbery at a local gold shop where a suspect had fled with multiple gold items. The patrol team, consisting of Jin Wei, Yuan Fangzhou, and Xu Bin, promptly coordinated with responding officer Ma Jun from the Didang Police Station to launch a search operation.

"The suspect went that way—he took a lot of merchandise!" the victim informed the officers, providing a detailed description of the robber's appearance and the direction of his escape. The team immediately began tracking the individual based on the information provided.

While driving through an intersection, one officer noticed a man in a dark coat and a white cap behaving nervously, repeatedly glancing around and attempting to hide in nearby bushes upon spotting the police vehicle. The team quickly identified him as the prime suspect.

"Don't move! Do you know why we're stopping you?" Initially evasive and hesitant to respond, the suspect fell silent after officers showed him video evidence captured by the store prior to the robbery.

A search of the suspect yielded 156.44 grams of gold jewelry, recovered within just five minutes of the initial report.

"I had no money for the New Year, and seeing how valuable gold is now, I gave in to temptation..." the suspect, identified as Tao, confessed during interrogation by senior officers Ni Weijun and Chen Senjie, admitting to the details of the theft.

All stolen items have been successfully retrieved, and the case remains under investigation.
