On the morning of September 24 local time, U.S. President Trump held a grand ceremony at the White House to warmly welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping for a state visit to the United States. The following are Trump's remarks at the White House welcoming ceremony:

President Xi Jinping, Madam Peng Liyuan, members of the Chinese delegation, it is a great pleasure to welcome you all to the beautiful White House. We are deeply honored. In May of this year, I had the privilege of visiting Beijing, where the Chinese side gave us a grand and warm reception. Today, Melania and I are very honored to host the two of you in Washington. Since I was first elected President of the United States in 2016, I have built a great friendship with President Xi Jinping based on mutual respect and the fundamental interests of our two peoples. President Xi and I have met many times in Germany, Argentina, Japan, South Korea, as well as Beijing and Palm Beach, Florida, and other places around the world. Today, we meet at the White House for the first time. As President Xi has already seen, the White House has changed a great deal compared with your last visit. President Xi Jinping and Madam Peng Liyuan's visit coincides with the important moment of the 250th anniversary of American independence. Tomorrow, we will visit the National Archives to see precious documents that showcase America's proud history. We will also view artifacts that bear witness to the long and precious history of exchanges between the United States and China. The people-to-people exchanges between our two countries are remarkable. Several hundred years ago, our forebears crossed the ocean, carried out trade, learned from each other, and together built a better world. Today, our two countries are continuing this cause, and we are deeply proud of this and of U.S.-China relations. President Xi and I have worked together to promote significant progress in addressing issues our two countries face in common. During my visit to China in May of this year, we established a trade council. Through this new and incredibly successful mechanism, our teams have continued to work to promote a more balanced trade relationship, including opening new market access for American farmers and ranchers. During President Xi's visit, we will also discuss urgent issues related to security, technology, and "superintelligence" (SI). The decisions we make today in these areas can promote peace and prosperity for decades to come and beyond. I believe that as long as we focus on common interests, we can achieve a great deal. Throughout history, it is precisely the pursuit of common interests that has brought our two peoples together across the vast ocean, overcoming enormous geographical barriers and many differences, and that also made us allies during World War II. Look at the great achievements we once made fighting side by side—brave American pilots volunteered to go to China and fought as members of the legendary "Flying Tigers" for the survival of this legendary country. They were truly remarkable. Because of one Marine's interaction with the Chinese people, the U.S. Marine Corps still uses a word from Chinese today—"gung ho." The Marine Corps uses it to express great enthusiasm, and in Chinese it means "working together." The peoples of our two countries joined hands to win that war, and today President Xi and I will continue to work together to create a better future for our two countries. President Xi Jinping, Madam Peng Liyuan, once again thank you for this historic visit, and welcome to the United States of America. Thank you all very much, thank you.
