On September 14th, the Zhengda Community under Taiyuan Street Sub-district organized a public welfare activity themed "Safe Navigation in the Smart Era," focusing on teaching seniors video editing skills using the Jianying app alongside essential cybersecurity knowledge. The initiative was designed to help older residents use modern digital tools safely and responsibly.

With the widespread adoption of smart digital lifestyles, short videos have become a key way for seniors to record their daily lives, interact socially, and access information. However, many elderly users lack sufficient cybersecurity awareness. While editing and publishing videos, they often inadvertently expose private details such as home addresses, personal photos, and travel routes, making them easy targets for online scams and data breaches.

Addressing these specific pain points, the community integrated practical video production training with cybersecurity education, moving beyond the traditional single-skill teaching model. This combined approach allows participants to acquire new technical abilities while simultaneously learning crucial protective measures for their online safety.

The workshop prioritized both practicality and safety, tailored to the learning habits of older adults. Instructors used real-life cases to highlight common risks faced by seniors, including information leaks, scam techniques involving short video traffic, and traps hidden in unfamiliar links. Participants were taught how to configure privacy settings for published videos, use materials safely, and avoid interacting with suspicious accounts.

Hands-on training covered the core functions of the Jianying app, with easy-to-follow explanations on importing footage, clipping clips, adding subtitles and background music, adjusting filters, and exporting finished works. A strong emphasis was placed on safety during the editing process, such as avoiding private scenes in videos and being cautious about sharing personal life content publicly.

Looking ahead, the Zhengda Community plans to regularly host digital skills and cybersecurity awareness activities tailored for the elderly. By continuously addressing the gaps in seniors' digital lives through targeted services, the community aims to safeguard their well-being in the smart era and foster a secure, civilized, and welcoming digital environment for all residents.
