Morning Market Recap: Hong Kong Stocks Edge Higher, AI Drug Development Sector Surges

Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng Index climbed 0.67% in mid-session trading, advancing 164 points to reach 24,768, while the Hang Seng Tech Index jumped 1.74%. Morning turnover on the Hong Kong exchange reached HK$107 billion, with biopharmaceutical stocks showing broad strength across the board.

Ten government departments jointly released the 15th Five-Year Plan for the pharmaceutical sector, prompting institutions to express optimism about the industry's prospects, with some drawing parallels to a potential "Claude moment" for the sector. JOINN (06127) surged 9.7%, while HBM HOLDINGS-B (02142) advanced 9.29%. Artificial intelligence-driven drug development has entered a strategic deployment phase.

XTALPI (02228) announced a collaboration with Stanford University on AI pharmaceutical research, sending shares up more than 12%. METIS TECHBIO-P (07666) also gained over 12%, while INSILICO (03696) rose more than 9%. IMPACT THERAP-B (07630) climbed over 12%, bolstered by its recent inclusion in the Stock Connect program and executive share purchases, alongside accelerating sales of its core product senaparib.

XIZHI TECH-P (01879) spiked more than 17%. Goldman Sachs released a research note maintaining a positive outlook on optical communications supply chain demand, noting that after visiting several optical companies including XIZHI TECH, surveyed firms continue to hold favorable views on optical module demand prospects.

ILUVATAR COREX (09903) advanced over 13%, with the company expected to benefit from sustained growth in AI capital expenditures and the push for domestic computing power self-sufficiency. MINIMAX-W (00100) gained 13% after multiple of its products were incorporated into bundled subscription plans through the Singtel AI Pass program.

LENOVO GROUP (00992) extended gains with a surge of over 7%, leading blue-chip stocks. CFO Zheng Xiaoming stated that Lenovo's valuation remains significantly undervalued, with future net margins targeted to benchmark against Dell. YUNJI (02670) jumped over 18% as its compound polymorphic robot UP officially entered multiple top-tier hospitals.

TRIGIANT (01300) climbed more than 10% following its acquisition of Qinghai Zhongli Optical Fiber Technology, which is expected to unlock incremental growth in AI-driven optical fiber products. LIULIUMEI (06658) surged over 21% after being added to the Stock Connect list of eligible securities, supported by its dual growth engines of a strong green plum core business and the Mei Dong second growth curve.

NSING TECH (02701) rose more than 11% after its N32H47x/N32H48x series MCUs officially obtained international SC3 certification. Gold stocks came under renewed pressure amid expectations of further Federal Reserve rate hikes, with SD GOLD (01787) dropping over 2% and ZHAOJIN MINING (01818) falling 3%.

160 HEALTH (02656) continued its sharp decline, plunging more than 10% to hit an all-time low since its listing, with the stock now down over 95% from its peak in March this year as the lock-up period for major shareholders expires.
