Intel has initiated a capital investment plan valued at 5 billion euros (approximately $5.7 billion) to expand its manufacturing campus in Leixlip, located near Dublin, Ireland.
The investment is designated for upgrading the existing infrastructure at the Fab 34 facility, installing state-of-the-art production equipment, and expanding automated production systems.
This expansion aims to increase the production capacity of Xeon 6 and next-generation Xeon server processors utilizing the Intel 3 process node, catering to the surging global demand for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.

This strategic investment represents a crucial step in the restructuring of Intel's manufacturing network and the expansion of its AI-focused strategy.
Earlier this year, in April, the company allocated $14.2 billion to repurchase the 49% stake in the Fab 34 facility that it had previously sold to Apollo Global Management, thereby regaining full ownership of this key manufacturing asset.
Executives from Intel's foundry services division indicated that this investment will not only boost output of essential products but is also a component of a broader plan to enhance delivery capabilities for its foundry clients.
The Driving Force Behind the Expansion
The expansion is being driven by an evolution in AI computing paradigms.
While GPUs from companies like Nvidia remain the primary workhorse for training large language models, the rapid adoption of AI agent-based products is creating increased demand for high-performance CPUs.
These agents, responsible for task orchestration, code execution, and inference scheduling, are heavily reliant on CPU performance.
Since establishing its presence in Ireland in 1989, Intel has invested a cumulative total exceeding 30 billion euros in the country and currently employs approximately 4,900 people there.
The latest project is anticipated to generate hundreds of new jobs in Ireland, with the majority of the investment expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
