HKEX (00388) has announced its interim results for the first half of 2026, posting a 19% year-on-year increase in revenue and other gains to HK$16.702 billion. Net profit attributable to shareholders climbed 24% to HK$10.568 billion, with basic earnings per share reaching HK$8.36. An interim dividend of HK$7.43 per share has been declared.

The group's Chief Executive Officer, Bonita Chan, commented on the strong performance, noting that both revenue and profit reached record highs for a half-year period, surpassing the previous benchmark set in the second half of 2025. She attributed the robust results to a combination of improved market sentiment, strong financing demand from technology and artificial intelligence-related enterprises, and active participation from both domestic and international investors. This contributed to record half-year turnover across the cash market, derivatives market, and the Stock Connect programmes, underscoring the resilience and significance of the Hong Kong market.

The commodities segment also demonstrated solid growth, with the London Metal Exchange (LME) achieving a new half-year volume record. During the period, the company continued to execute its strategic priorities, expand and enrich its product offerings, and advance the framework for simplifying board lot sizes. The derivatives and index product suite was further diversified, marked by the successful launch of the first exchange-traded fund (ETF) tracking the HKEX Tech 100 Index.

International collaboration was also deepened, with significant progress made in developing Hong Kong's fixed income and currency product ecosystem, including the announcement of plans to introduce Chinese government bond futures. Looking ahead, despite an unpredictable macroeconomic and geopolitical environment, the company sees significant long-term growth opportunities for both HKEX and Hong Kong as global capital increasingly seeks to tap into China's innovative economy and broader Asian growth prospects.

Through ongoing market reforms, enhanced connectivity, and the expansion of a diversified asset ecosystem, the group remains committed to strengthening the competitiveness, resilience, and appeal of its markets. Leveraging these advantages, HKEX is well-positioned to effectively bridge capital with opportunities, meet the evolving needs of investors, and solidify Hong Kong's status as a leading international financial centre.
